Address of Economic and Commercial Counselor

First of all, on behalf of the Commercial Counsellor's Office of the Chinese Embassy in Sudan, welcome and thank you for visiting to our website!

Since the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between China and Sudan in early 1959, bilateral political mutual trust has been increasingly consolidated and economic and trade cooperation has been deepening. Especially since the mid-1990s, bilateral economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has been expanding continuously, the scale of cooperation has expanded rapidly, and bilateral cooperation has achieved fruitful results. At present, China has become the most important economic and trade partner of Sudan, maintaining the status of Sudan's largest investor, trading partner, aid donor and contracting partner for many years. Sudan has also become China’s important economic and trade partner in West Asia and Africa, and bilateral economic and trade relations are very close.

The economic and trade cooperation between China and Sudan has greatly promoted the economic development of Sudan. After more than 10 years of efforts, China's petroleum enterprises have helped Sudan build three major oil fields with an annual output of 26 million tons of crude oil and a refinery that processes 5 million tons of crude oil a year. They have formed an integrated petroleum industry system with complete system, advanced technology and matching scale, thus enabling Sudan to achieve oil self-sufficiency and surplus export. China's power companies have helped Sudan build projects that generate more than 2 million kilowatts of electricity. China's hydropower engineering enterprises have helped Sudan build a 10-kilometer-long Merowe Dam on the Nile River, known as the "Three Gorges of Sudan" and "the pyramid of the 21st century". China has implemented nearly 100 bilateral aid projects. The most symbolic one is the Friendship Hall built in 1976, and after 40 years of historical vicissitudes, it remains the largest conference hall in Sudan. At present, there are more than 100 Chinese-funded enterprises in the Sudan, whose business scope covers many industries such as petroleum, water conservancy, power, municipal, communications, agriculture, mining, services and so on. They have become an important driving force for the economic development of Sudan.

In 2013, President Xi Jinping proposed "Belt and Road" initiative and got the positive response and enthusiastic participation of Sudan. The two sides actively docked development strategies and plans and conducted fruitful cooperation in many fields.

In September 2018, the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was successfully held, the leaders of the two countries have conducted in-depth exchanges on China-Sudan cooperation, pointing out the direction for the future of the cooperation between the two countries.
